What is SHOUTcast?
Shoutcast is a free-of-charge audio homesteading solution. It
permits anyone on the internet to broadcast
audio from their PC to listeners across the
Internet or any other IP-based network
(Office LANs, college campuses, etc.).
SHOUTcast is easy to use. SHOUTcast is a
platform based for delivering live MP3 audio
streams (broadcasts) via the internet. It
also supports MP3pro, aacPlus and Nullsoft
Video (NSV) formats
If you're looking to start a new Internet radio station, or are
already established and simply want to
switch from your current host, then look no
further. Whether you are simply in need of a
Shoutcast DNAS to broadcast your music the
world or require a full streaming solution,
Server4All is here to help you get up and
running quickly, cost effectively and as
hassle free as possible.

What is DNAS?
DNAS is SHOUTcast's Distributed Network Audio Server. It is the
software that run on our servers, and it is
responsible of receiving the audio from the
broadcaster, update the SHOUTCast directory
with broadcast information (title, artist,
bitrate), and sending the broadcast to the
listeners.
What difference does a higher bit rate make?
A higher bit rate has both positive and negative effects.
The positive effects that your listeners
will get a much fuller, richer sound
quality, so your voice, or the song you are
playing will be much clearer to the ear,
128kbps is what most songs are download from
via the internet, so that would be perfect
for you if you want the optimum sound
quality. On the negative side, people with
dial-up connections will experience
buffering (stopping and starting) of your
stream if you stream at a high bit-rate.
Although dial-up internet is virtually
non-existent nowadays, some people in remote
areas still have it, so check with your
listeners before you upgrade to a higher bit
rate. What a lot of people do nowadays, is
have 2 different streams, one which is high
quality (128kbps+) and one which is low
quality (32kbps and below).
What is
AutoDJ?
The
Auto DJ service for SHOUTcast enables you to broadcast your
pre-recorded content 24/7 without human
intervention or the need to have a computer
running. It is also known a radio schedule
software or radio automation software. The
service features a simple media management
interface that makes the process of
uploading your mp3 and aacPlus files
extremely easy. Once on the system, you can
create as many playlists or schedules as you
wish using the simple drag and drop
interface. Each playlist can be scheduled
and weighted allowing you to setup complex
show rotations along with idents and
adverts. The service utilises the latest
Serverside technology, making it extremely
easy to use. No need to worry about
uploading your content at the bitrate you
wish to broadcast as the system will
automatically re-transcode on the fly to
suit your broadcast. Additional Auto DJ
features include automatic cross fade
between content and the ability to cover
gaps in live broadcast so while one DJ
disconnects and another connects, the
audience is not left with ‘dead air’.
